PostSubject: Insurance company?   August 7th 2010, 00:09

I know this topic has been on B-King Talk but not specific for Australia.
I just found out that ebike (which I use) will not renew any policies since they close the door for motorbike insurances.
For me it means that I need 3 separate policies instead of one (ebike offered up to 4 bikes per policy).
I paid $750 a year for full insurance for my 3 bikes and now I`m looking at almost double that figure.
Any suggestions regarding a cheap & good insurer?
Never expected that this would happen when I added the King to the stable, the King alone cost almost as much as my 3 bikes with ebike ($675).
Many thanks.

My missus works for IAG. And a neighbour works for AAMI and SUNCORP. Tried them all (with staff discounts) and Shannons was still the best policy and costs. They didn't even buff the price up for modifications to the bike.

A good mate of mine he just insured his new Busa with insure myride which was cheaper than QBE.
I would think they have to repair it according to the same state as it was before any accidents otherwise they would have to fix it again plus the insurer get a lot of complaints.
When I got quotes from insure my ride it came up to a total of $1186 for 3 bikes which is still way higher than E-Bike but much less than QBE`s $1509.
Just been on the phone with QBE and I might insure 2 of my bikes there (King $609, DL650 $252) and one with insure my ride (R1 $85 for 3rd party), I know it is quite silly not to have comprehensive insurance but I do not use the R1 often and then it will be mainly on the track, no I`m not going to sell it!

Shannons does not even insure B-King & R1 at least not where you get quotes on Internet.
I think it is a bit over the top to pay full insurance for every bike you got since you can only ride one at a time, I do understand if there is a minor cost for theft & fire.
Same goes for rego, why pay 3 times $450 (or similar) when you only can ride one at a time?
Maybe I missed something, since I have not found one bike that can do it all there will be multiple bikes in my garage, would not mind a trial bike as well but need that Lotto win first.
Cheers.

Red Dust, bit wrong on the Shannons as I have been insured with them since the begining. Just needed to talk to the right operator (not internet). Just a tad over 700 though, but great policy. You get what you pay for in my understanding. This covers all riding gear, bike mod's, etc.

Remember my missus is in the insurance game.

Want it really cheap I think you loose alot of the benefits.

I was the 1st person in Australia to insure a B-King through Shannon's
(so they told me) They originaly didn't know what to list it as !!

I have a multi bike policy with them.
GSX1100ET / Bandit1200 / Hayabusa / B-King.
Option to buy back salvage / do own repairs,
rider and pillion's bike gear, all mod's and accesseries.

Have you not lost your licence over here Tony? They would not insure me when I told them about my driving record.

Yes, They did ask. No loss of licence but came close a few times.
I know several folk who are very happy with Shannon's,
including a couple who have been unfortunate enough to have to claim,
Its just they are very focused on their target market and dont suit everyone.

No loss on licence.

No young riders.

Bike to be garaged.

Leisure rider, not commuter.
(although when i questioned this and said i'd get other quotes
they said "sometimes is OK but no a REGULAR commuter" )

No 2nd riders on policy.
(although again they said they look at individual cases when I
asked about a friend from the UK useing my bikes)

For all 4 bikes, with mod's, extra's, rider and pillion gear etc etc,
and the fact I havent had a clean licence for several years,
I pay $1391.

As I do commute Shannons might not be the best for me but I give them a call and find out.
Might take a bike off the road since I never expected to pay much more than $750 for the insurance for my bikes.
Cheers.
