PostSubject: Took the King out tonight to stretch her legs... 148mph ride Video   September 5th 2008, 23:02

As the title says... I took the bike out for a little spin tonight and decided to let her stretch her legs.

Traction was a problem in the corners. It seemed that no matter what I couldn't get the tires hot enough to really throttle through the Apex of the turn... everytime I'd get into the throttle the ass end would get loose.

BUT, when I'd power out of the exit of the curve it had enough grip to lift the front end a couple of times... (Nothing better than giving input to the bars and nothing happens... 35seconds in was one example) Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

All I can think is its gotta be something to do with the Contact patch at the Apex of the Corner and many more G forces working against the tire than there are on the exit...

Also, I am running a speedo healer, so my MPH are Actual with no error.
I had a full tank bag on the bike and couldn't tuck, so the wind pushing against me was lifting the front end some. I ended up topping out at 148 when the front end started getting light on me and I rolled out of the gas. The bike was still pulling though. Look forward to doing it again when I can tuck and see what she'll do.

Based on the speedo error I had to calibrate out, a stock B-King would have read 167Mph on the Speedo.

Anyway, Enjoy...

Good effort.

The powers that be have hissy fits over videos like this posted on sites. (tough).

Everybody speeds, its all about enjoying the performance of your chosen machine at the right time and in the right place, to experience the buzz you get riding a big bike.

The video shows the B-King at home on a fast sweeping smooth surface road, the B-King handles exceptionally well for a 230kg bike.

Cheers.

Hey Jutah,
Great video. Is that the Suzuki "Meter Cover" you have on the bike that is working like a small windscreen? If it is, does it cause any helmet buffeting? I think I want to ad one of them to my bike, but, not at the expense of mucking up the "clean air" you get without a windscreen. Cool

Yes... it's the small windscreen that Zuk Sells. (Not sure if they refer to it as a meter cover or not)

No buffeting at all, provides great protection for the camera, and if you want to you can actually tuck low enough to get under the wind...

When in a normal, non tucked, riding position you still get the wind on your chest / head... like it's not even there.

I am actually quite pleased with it.

And to further what Utah said, the flow as it hits you while upright is not turbulent...resulting in little booming in your helmet. I think the Suzuki engineers spent some time with this bike/screen in the wind tunnel.

I would have thought you'd have gotten to a much higher speed a lot quicker than that given the length of straight aways you were on...

Glad you guys liked the video...
The Camera is actually my old Sony DSC-100 digital camera, in video mode... Mounted to the bike on a Ram mount.

Dizzy... with the exception of one or 2 little bursts I didn't have the
throttle pinned, and wasn't running like I was in a race. Since I
wasn't on a track I have to be mindful of cars, cops, people, animals,
sand / gravel, etc. I was just enjoying a spirited ride, the bike can
obviously be ridden harder / faster.

I have since actually gone out and purchased a different camera that's intended more specifically for this type of stuff called the "GoPro"

Here's a link to it... a very nice, WATERPROOF, camera that comes with several mounting options as part of the package. It uses AAA's and an SD flash card... so you can carry spares and shoot as much video as you feel like taking. (No need for a charger, laptops, etc.)

http://www.goprocamera.com/index7.htm

Here's a video from the new Camera...
Unfortunately it gets compressed all to hell when I load it up on the web and the audio and video quality take a toll. The original vid / aud are great, but it's also 133 megs...

Try blipping the throttle before downshifts, it will shift easier, and wont upset the bike as much on corner entry.

Good tip Tony... I do that habitually on the M109 to prevent locking up the rear wheel... not sure why the habit didn't transfer over to the B-king.... Question

Rich:
Do you know if our bolt (screw) pattern around the gas cap is the same as the Busa? I see plenty of mounts for the Busa.
Thanks

I do not know for a fact if they are or not...

It would surprise me though to find out they weren't as I think that is a standard size / pattern for a lot of the Zuk's.
