PostSubject: clutch clunk / driveline shunt   January 25th 2009, 08:46

i'm on to my second new b-king (only 250km), and this one is shunting and clunking a bit more than my last one. when i let out the clutch lever in 1st gear, the drive usually engages with a bit of a clunk - less smooth and progressive than my last king.

also, when i'm cruising for example in 3rd gear and i come on and off the throttle anything more than very very very gently, there is a clunk from down below like drivetrain lash or shunt/slack as the power is engaged and disengaged through the system. i'm concerned this b-king just has a sloppy drivetrain from new compared to my last one, but still may be within spec. can any of this be adjusted or tightened up at all?

cheers - jimmy

Same as mine.

If i go down through the gears and pull up at a set of lights in first,
(not going into neutral) when I pull away again I get the CLUNK.

I was told (and it could be total BS) that some bikes load up the BTL
in the clutch under decelleration and drop back (clunk) when the load
is reversed as you pull away. The two options were pull it all to bits and
clean up the machineing / casting or ride it and let it wear in.
Dont give me greif for the above statement, just what I was told !

Never bothered with mine, not sure if its gone away or i've just learnt
to ignore it or im just gently preloading the clutch at stops to remove
it, but its not a problem and hardley noticable.

Having had a couple of Busa's its not unknown for Busa owners to get
the BTL welded up or Locked up. Makes for a better clutch if you actually
know how to ride a bike and dont need the BTL.

Not fact, just my 10c.

Mine has this affliction as well. I have always said that the weakest part on a Suzuki is the clutch. Mladin can't get two starts from his clutch in a race without cooking it if he is not careful.

what about coming on and off the throttle while in gear just cruising at say 60kmh? do others get a bit of driveline shunt or clunk as you power on and off slightly? its probably normal.

(i have somewhat minimised these problems by dialling out ALL slack in the throttle cable play. I've done this before and its how i like the throttle anyway on all bikes. ie: the first mm of throttle is active and gets the bike moving well! i get no surge when turning the bars...never have done on any bike anyway.)

Same here, Take all the slack out for the throttle and your shifting will be smoooooooooooother too.

had it, put the Brock's clutch mod in, all gone. not enough O's in smoooooth. comes off the line better without the shuttering, easy or hard launch, smoother shifting less trans noises.

+1 on the chain slack.

When my chain is slack i also manage to find a false neutral between 5 and 6.

Skin.

I always engage the clutch but wait for a count of 4 b4 I select a gear seems very smooth , if you wait too long it can be stiff but if you release the clutch slightly while selecting the gear it pops in nicely.

I am about to get rid of the anti lockup plate in the rear of the clutch , I had some plates made up to get rid of the std clutch and using some new gsx1100 clutch springs it will make the clutch act like a normal clutch again , much better for clutch control.

If anyone wants one I have 5 extras made and Ill have springs next week for them all
